Week update and last week's achievements

Last week's achievement :

Last week we went on practising for the gala with the other classes so that they learn about the organization of the show.

We studied the sounds of the letters F (pronounced "feu") and V (pronounced "veu") and they practised writing them too

We went on doing maths in their two copy books and they are progressing well with them each student at their own rhythm.

Regarding science we spoke about how we breath, what is the use of the heart and how the blood flows everywhere in our body as well as how the food goes from the mouth to the stomach and etc ...

They also decorated a Christmas card and copied JOYEUX NOEL (Merry Christmas) on it

I also had them repeat the body parts and we played Sam says (in French 'Jacques a dit') to revise the vocabulary

This week events :

Monday : Pizza day and sport day + Bake sale

Tuesday : Normal day

Wednesday : Holiday Fair and gift exchange (for the ones who did not paid yet could you bring me back the 10 dollars as well as the authorization)

Thursday : Normal day with general rehearsal for the gala

Friday : Christmas gala. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD WILL COME WITH A BLACK TIGHT OR LEGGING AND A WHITE LONG SLEEVE T-SHIRT (ONLY THE SLEEVES NEED TO BE WHITE)

Bonne semaine

Gift exchange

Bonjour

I was told that there is a tradition at the school of a gift exchange between the children. Therefore if you could provide a little gift (10 dollars maximum) for a girl if your child is a boy and for a boy if your child is a girl that would be very nice of you. That would be great if I could have them for Monday or Tuesday (sorry for the short delay) because we are going to do the gift exchange on Wednesday, December, 17th .

At the same time the children are going to create a little gift that they will offer to one another so as to teach them also the pleasure of offering and not only the one of receiving. But you do not have to provide anything for this since we will do it in class with the material we have.

Thanks a lot for your cooperation, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any question

Holiday casual day tomorrow

Bonjour

Since tomorrow there is the Christmas Bazaar after school it was decided this morning that the students will be allowed to wear casual clothes instead of the uniform. But there is one rule : they will need to wear Christmas related colours (green, brown, red, ect ...)
I realize it is a bit of a short notice so if they come in uniform it will be ok too

Bonne journee

Christmas gala costumes contribution

Bonjour,

As you know we are doing the costumes for the Christmas gala, we did all the shopping needed and I divided it between all of you and it amounts to 10 dollars by student. So if you could bring me the money next week that would be great. I would also like the children to wear black tights and a white long sleeve T shirt underneath the costume for the gala, so please make sure that you have these two items ready for December 15th, so that I can collect them before the gala which will be on the 19th.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation

Working French without knowing it : Cartoons in French

Little easy thing to do to help your child progress in French. At this age the best way for them to progress is by exposing them a maximum to the language so do not hesitate to make them watch their favourite cartoons or shows in French when it's possible. You can still but the English subtitles for you if needed since they do not read that won't bother them.

Here is an example of a famous one that they like to watch : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUH-OFSgbx4

Pizza day and crazy hair day payment

Bonjour,

I just wanted to remind those who didn't pay for the casual day today if they can think to bring me or the office the 2 dollars tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks a lot in advance

Week's achievements

Bonsoir

Just a little summary of what we did this week in the JK class

-first we revised a little bit more the colours and vowels

-we also went on saying what the weather is like every morning

-we practised on a daily basis the song, poem and dance for the Christmas gala

-we learnt two new letters : the consonants B  and P (pronounced by the sounds they make that is 'beu' and 'peu' to prepare them better for reading) and they practised recognizing them and also writing them

-we went on counting until 30 and went until 40 just this morning and we will go on practising on this next week

-we also went to the Aquarium which was really a wonderful experience and the children learnt the names of the most common fishes and the ones we saw over there. We also learnt the song 'Les petits poissons' as you could see on my previous post

-they painted a colourful fish using cotton and paint as some of you saw on the panel tonight

>> you can find some of the materials I used this week below if you want to use them to go on practising

-Finally, please remember that on Monday it's both pizza day and crazy hair day

Lunch box essentials

Dear parents,
I would like to remind you that candies, lollipops and chocolate are forbidden at school. They can have it in their lunch boxes for after school but they won't be able to eat them in class. I would also appreciate if they could all have at least one portion of fruit or vegetables each day.
All this is to allow them to be able to concentrate in class and fight against the cold.
I know that most of you already do it that way but I just wanted to send a little reminder so that every child gets the appropriate snack and lunch.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
Have a good day.

The school bus will leave the school at 9:15am and will return at 2:00pm. For this school trip, the students will be asked to wear their full uniform. They will have to bring a light lunch and snacks in their small blue backpack.

For the parent volunteers, each volunteer parent will escort one or two students and will take the school bus with the students. Please don't forget your camera.

I will send a reminder on Tuesday evening

Morning early birds

Bonjour,

I would like to remind the parents that bring their children before 8.15 on the morning that they have to leave them in the Prep K class with Madame Christine and Madame Victoria so that they do not stay in the corridor where nobody can look after them. I go get them at 8.15 in the Prep K and take them with me in the JK classroom.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation

Today the children are going to attend a theatre show and we are going to work on the number 5 as well as on the weather forecast. You will be able to see their work exhibited in the corridor before the end of the week.

Bonne journee

Christmas Gala song and poem

Here is the poem for the Christmas gala that we are going to learn as well as the song. Do not hesitate to repeat it at home with your children :)

Le bonhomme de neige a froid

Il fait froid
Claque, claque tes mains
Elles ont chaud, elles sont bien
Frotte, frotte ton front
Il rougit comme un lampion
Tape, tape tes joues
Mais pas comme un petit fou
Dring, dring ton nez
C'est pour bien le rechauffer
Gratte, gratte ton menton,
Barbichette, barbichon

Going back to school message

Bonjour,

I wanted to remind you that next Wednesday (the 19th) we are going to the Aquarium, you will find all the information needed on the form I put in your children's bag. It needs to be completed and sent in back to me as soon as possible. I also need volunteers to help me so if you're free and you want to join us please let me know on the form too.
Here is a copy of the form.
Merci

Another little reminder : it's rare but it can still happen that children's sport bags get mixed up. If you happen to get one from another student would you please wash the clothes anyway so that they would have their clothes clean too for sport. That means that your child will also have clean clothes and that every student is ok. Thanks a lot for your cooperation and understanding.

Snowman costumes update

Bonjour,

As I talked with Madame Faye about it we decided that 28 dollars is too much to ask so we are going to make it ourselves in class as our art sessions (as it will be quite easy). I'm going to go and buy the materials (big white t-shirt, black felt, cotton, elastics, orange make up and scarves) we need and I'll tell you how much it will be for each child so you can reimburse me but it won't be more than 20 dollars I'm confident of it.
You will just have to provide a black tights and they will have to wear their black school shoes.
So I will let you know as soon as I know more.

Enjoy the end of the week and your weekend

URGENT PLEASE READ- SNOW MAN COSTUMES

URGENT PLEASE READ-

Hello Bonjour Parents!

Just a quick update that over the few weeks I have been looking for the "snowman costumes" for the children for the Christmas Gala!

The good news is that the Costume above is available and they have 12 in stock for 4-6 year olds. The unfortunate news is the costume which you previously saw on the blog has been sold out and other snow man costumes either are too expensive or simply they don't have enough in stock.

The cost of the Snowman Costume above which I negotiated to meet our budget is $25.00 & with tax $28.25.

I would like to propose the following, only if everyone is in agreement  with this costume, in order to provide closure on this task.

I will order and pay for all the costumes tomorrow and will be able to have them delivered by Monday November 10, 2014

However, if you could kindly provide your payment to Madame Claire in a sealed envelope for $28.25 by November 12, 2014, that would be greatly appreciated.

Please let me know, your response and I shall arrange next steps.

Cordially,

Sonya

First of all I hope everybody is going to have great holidays and good rest

If you want to practise a little with your child you could revise the French vowels we learnt in class (A, E, I, O and U) both in capital and little letters.

You can find two sheets to help you.

Example of exercises :

-Show them the sheets of paper and ask them to show you the A, E, ect .....
-Show them the A, E, etc ... and ask them to tell you what it's called
Attention : it's very important to do it in French so that they do not mix up the different names of the letters (and more particularly the e and i)

-Make them write the letters by using the two sheets of paper

-As for the number we learnt up until 40 in French

Bonjour,

I am hereby speaking for Madame Maya. She was really moved by your gifts for her and by the gesture. She asked me to thank all of you and she will miss every one of your children.
She wants to express her best wishes to everybody.

Christmas Gala costume

Bonjour,

We are looking at a costume for the Christmas gala and since the children are going to sing a song about a snowman this costume seems to be a good match. The final price of this costume (with taxes and delivery) would be around 25 dollars (here is the link if you want to take a look :
http://www.amazon.com/Snowman-Costume-Children-range-years/dp/B000YD9RKW/ref=sr_1_49?ie=UTF8&qid=1413918985&sr=8-49&keywords=snowman+costume )
So we wanted to know if you would be ok to pay this price to order the costume for your children. We would need to have it for mid-November. And of course you will be able to keep the costume after the gala.
You can let me know if you would be ok with this option by commenting on this post or by simply telling me at school. We would need all the parents to be ok with it before going through with it but if it's not the case we would fine another solution. When the final decision will be taken I will let you know for sure.
Merci

Madame Claire

PS ; For the cards if you do not want to order some think to bring us the picture back please and I will give it back to your children later on.

End of the week information

Yesterday the children did art : we painted with our fingers and hands in order to create cards you are going to be able to purchase. Here are some explanations :
You have received today a drawing created by your child as part of the Cards By Me fundraising program.  With this program, you are being given the opportunity to order greeting cards and/or calendars with your child's artwork on the cover.
A set of 12 greeting cards and envelopes is priced at $25.00 and the calendar is $7.50.  Both greeting cards and calendars are offered for $30.00.
If you are interested in participating in this program, please fill out the form on the back of the drawing.  Return the completed form with the drawing and the money to Madame Claire on Monday October 27.  This is to ensure that the greeting cards are printed on time for the holiday season.
If you are not interested in this program, please return the drawing to Madame Claire.

We also started to study colours and animals in French. We worked on the vowels O, A, U, I, and we go on learning counting until 30.

A lot of things are planned for next week :
-Monday is pizza day and pyjama day - please make sure you have already sent the form and 18 dollars for the whole year if your child is participating.
-Wednesday is Halloween and we will give the presents to Madame Maya : don't forget to bring a costume and bring back the permission form and payment if you have not brought it back already please
-Friday is Parents - Teachers meeting

Madame Maya!

Hello Parents!

On behalf of the class, we would like to purchase a token of appreciation for all that our wonderful teacher Madame Maya has done for our kids.  We are thinking of purchasing a small bouquet of flowers, chocolate and of course A Shining Star with a message of gratitude, compliments of merci chocolate!

http://www.merci.com/en/give-a-star

We were also thinking about the idea of and possibly creating a   calendar with pictures of the school, her activities and of course with your permission, each student for her memory. Should you wish not to share a picture of your children, no worries, we understand and wish to respect each families privacy.

If you would like to contribute toward this gift, please send your contribution (if possible between $3 to $5) in a sealed envelope addressed to me by
Monday, October 27, 2014, and I will take care of the rest!

We plan to present the gift to Madame Maya on October 29, 2014 at 1:00pm just prior to the start of the La Citadelle Halloween Festival.

Thank you,

Sonya Fontana-JK Class Representative

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes!  I will make a donation toward the cost of the gift!  (Please send in an envelope to Sonya Fontana's attention)

No. It would be a pleasure to help, however, unfortunaetly I will not be able to participate, but do wish Madame Maya all the very best!

Sport clothes reminder

Hello,

I wanted to remind you that your child needs to have his/her sport cloth (long sport pants, sweat-shirt and t-shirt) and shoes in his/her bag for the sport class. It is very important so that they do not stay in wet clothes all day long and so that they can be more at ease to do sport. You can put them in their bags on Mondays and they can keep it until Friday so that they have it when needed.

Thank you for your understanding

Madame Claire

Bonjour,

You can find above the lyrics of the Halloween song we started to learn today.

''Vieille sorciere, vieille sorciere
Que fais-tu, que fais-tu ?
Je mange d'la citrouille, je mange d'la citrouille
Cric crac croc, cric crac croc

Vieille sorciere, vieille sorciere
Que fais-tu, que fais-tu ?
Je mange d'la citrouille, je mange d'la citrouille
Cric crac croc, cric crac croc''
